Tatcha’s Founding Team
Tatcha began with one woman’s search for beauty and goodness in the world, and the people in Japan who showed her both. It was built by scientists, cultural experts, and craftspeople—a team whose expertise, knowledge, and care shaped everything from the science to the soul of the brand. Their quest for knowledge continues to this day.
FounderVictoria Tsai
Vicky Tsai is the founder and soul of Tatcha. She followed a belief — that science and soul are not separate ideas — into completely unknown territory, building the brand from a single product and a personal conviction. Her journey, from a first trip to Kyoto to a brand known around the world, became the philosophical and human core of everything Tatcha does. That story continues with everyone who carries it forward.
Founding Executive Director, Brand & HeritageNami Onodera
Nami Onodera joined the brand in 2010 with a mission: to go deeper into Japan — not to translate it for a Western audience, but to learn from it as a student. Born in Tokyo and trained in global communications, she traveled throughout Japan, building relationships with craftspeople, scholars and cultural leaders whose knowledge and perspectives continue to shape Tatcha's understanding of Japanese beauty, craftsmanship and culture.
Founding Chief Scientist, Tatcha InstituteMasato Tagawa
Masato Tagawa is a world-renowned chemist and the scientific foundation of Tatcha. Inspired by his father, he spent 25 years in research and development before joining Tatcha in 2010. A globally recognized authority in colloid chemistry, he built the Tatcha Institute, and developed the Hadasei-3 Proprietary Complex.
Founding General Manager, JapanShuichi Tanaka
Shuichi Tanaka is a renowned expert on the culture and business of Japanese beauty. In 2010, he came out of retirement to serve as Vicky's mentor and help shape the brand's philosophy, foundation, and vision. From our rituals and packaging to our products and customer experience, Tanaka-san instilled a philosophy of care rooted in hospitality, humanity, and respect—ensuring that every decision begins with the question: How do we best serve the client?
Director of MindfulnessToryo Ito
Toryo Ito is a Zen Buddhist monk. A native of Gion, he has dedicated his life to bringing Zen practice into contemporary life around the world. His teaching — that meditation is not separate from living, but woven through it — became the philosophical foundation of Tatcha's approach to ritual. He has served as Tatcha's Director of Mindfulness since 2021.

Beauty Heritage Grounded in Wisdom
The rituals born in Kyoto centuries ago have something to teach all of us about slowing down, showing up, and honoring ourselves today.
The Science of Transformation
Skin has life. Skin has emotions. What happens on the surface sends signals to the mind. Tatcha is built on the belief that skin and mind are one. Modern NeuroSkin Science proves it.
