The Tatcha Institute

Founded in Tokyo in 2010, the Tatcha Institute exists for one purpose: to translate the principles of Japanese wisdom into science rigorous enough to prove them. Every scientist and researcher at the Tatcha Institute is dedicated to the study of NeuroSkin Science, the modern scientific validation of the skin-mind connection.

Led by our Chief Scientist, we design and develop our formulas in Japan. At Tatcha, specialty botanicals and modern science come together in formulas you can feel. Japanese formulation principles yield a different texture, a different result. The difference is in the craft.

The Craft of Formulation

Inspired by the tradition of takumi — mastery through total dedication to craft — ingredients are sourced, fermented, and refined in Japan. Every formula developed and tested to exacting protocols. Every detail considered with intention, from the molecular level outward.

What makes a Tatcha formula is not simply what goes into it — it is how the ingredients work together. Temperature, process, the harmony of the whole.

Sourced from Japan

At Tatcha, every formula follows a clear principle: Japanese ingredients first. Time-tested botanicals are paired with modern technology and proven actives like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and vitamins that unlock their full power—increasing bioavailability, absorbance, and efficacy.
